Watch “Church” by JADE – EQ Music Blog

Even before the release of “That’s Showbiz Baby!”, JADE’s solo vision was crystal clear. The build-up singles alone hinted she was crafting something genuinely special — an eclectic, electrifying body of work that would cement her place as one of pop’s most interesting new auteurs. I was never the biggest Little Mix loyalist, but JADE’s solo output grabbed me instantly. Tracks like “FUFN,” “IT Girl,” and “Angel of My Dreams” saw her dive headfirst into alt-electro-pop with a fearless edge. And honestly? Pop needed someone with her profile to carry that torch again.

If Charli XCX defined 2024 with “BRAT”, then JADE came blazing into 2025 with “That’s Showbiz Baby!— bold, clever, queer-aligned pop with a cinematic wink. And subsequently, now she’s doubled down with the deluxe “That’s Showbiz Baby! The Encore, expanding the world of the album with eight new tracks rescued from the vault. These aren’t throwaways; they’re deliberate, polished, and full of personality. There isn’t a single skip. But one track in particular demands the spotlight: “Church.”

Directed by Billy King, the “Church” video is a full-on pop sermon, moreover, witchy, stylish, knowingly theatrical. JADE appears in a series of high-fashion looks, embodying a cult-like high priestess as she invites us into her church of pop. The visual leans into camp and mystique without ever losing its emotional centre. It’s an invitation: come as you are, stay as you wish, be whoever you want to be.

And the sentiment carries through in JADE’s Gay Times interview, where she shares the intention behind the song:

“I wrote ‘Church’ with Pablo [Bowman] and Sarah Hudson, one of the girlies that gets it, know what I mean? She’s an incredible songwriter who’s really intertwined with the LGBTQIA+ community in LA, so it felt important to write a song like that with her. I wanted ‘Church’ to feel like a love letter to those fans. It’s no secret that I have a predominantly LGBTQIA+ fan base. ‘Church’ is like ‘Angel [Of My Dreams]’, it’s telling a story of my journey within that space.”

Above all, “Church” feels like the beating heart of “The Encore” — a moment of gratitude, self-assurance, and community. JADE didn’t just deliver; she exceeded the assignment. And now I know exactly what I’ll have spinning at full volume come New Year’s Eve 2025.
