EMERGING ARTISTS: Søftbleach – EQ Music Blog

Every so often, an artist emerges who reminds us how thrilling reinvention is. For instance, former EQ Music Blog spotlighted Emerging Artist Darla Jade (already a rising electro-pop singer-songwriter supported by Radio 1), has taken a bold creative leap. While she’s certainly done the pop-star thing by bleaching her brunette hair blonde. Likewise, the bigger story is her transformation from solo act to band leader. After connecting in 2024 with German-born musicians Justin (guitar/bass) and Jan (drums), the trio evolved into an indie-pop outfit now known as Søftbleach.

Officially launched in May 2025 with their dreamy debut single Fortress,” Søftbleach wasted no time establishing their sound. Only months later, they surprised listeners with the release of their seven-track debut EP, “Neverland”. As momentum continues to build, it’s clear this trio is positioning themselves for a breakout moment in 2026.

With pop-girlie bands making waves recently, it’s refreshing to encounter an indie-pop act with this level of creative synergy. Søftbleach demonstrate an immediate understanding of melody, dynamics, and lyrical nuance. Each member arrives with significant musical experience. And, above all, this allows the group to craft a debut that feels polished, cohesive, and impressively assured. Most notably, Darla’s presence at the helm brings a compelling emotional core. (I’ve long thought she deserved the opportunity to showcase this fully).

Among the EP’s offerings, the new focus single “Do It for the Plot” rises to the forefront almost immediately. I first put it on during a cold, stormy Saturday afternoon, and it captured my attention within seconds. Recently, diving back into Depeche Mode’s catalogue after experiencing their IMAX concert film “M, at the cinema, I’ve been craving music with that same propulsive energy. While Søftbleach operate in a different sonic realm, their dynamic flair delivers a comparable rush of exhilaration—one that kept me hitting repeat.

So, if you’re searching for your next indie-pop obsession, Søftbleach’s “Neverland” EP (listen here) is absolutely worth your time.
