TYPE O NEGATIVE Is Finalizing A Brand New Live Album
2026 is gonna be apparently a pretty solid year for Type O Negative. According to Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly in an interview with Sh!t Talk Reviews, a new live album is coming within the next year – though we’re not clear on when the show is from.
“We were able to get our hands on a show,” said Kelly. “I just got a mix of one of the songs, just two or three weeks ago, to approve it. It was mixed and mastered, and we were gonna put it out with one label, and now I believe we’re doing it with Nuclear Blast. I’m not exactly sure when it’s coming out. Right now we’re going through the artwork and stuff like that, approving that kind of stuff.”
And recently, Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey was a guest on Loaded Radio where told radio host Scott Penfold that Type O Negative was “working on the artwork now” for an official full-length live album. Hickey said that they were “in the mixing process” and that he was “excited” about it.”
Hickey also informed Penfold that the remaining Type O Negative members – bar one – were recently considering a tribute show for Peter Steele. But the band’s keyboardist Josh Silver was unwilling to participate or coordinate a show due to the difficulty of committing to such an event while also being a paramedic in New York City.
Kelly also spoke about a potential Type O Negative tribute show to Peter Steele, saying it’t not nearly as close as the media is making it out to be: “Honestly, I really don’t know, ’cause what’s happening now is people are starting to approach us, saying, ‘Hey, have you thought about doing something?’ or, ‘Now may be a good time to do this,’ or, ‘It’s been 15 years. It’s time. You guys should do something.’
“So we’re starting to get approached by people about doing something, but it isn’t something that we’ve been actively pursuing or having discussions about, where it’s, like, ‘All right, when are we gonna do this? How are we gonna do it? Who are we gonna do it with?’ None of that has come up. We’ve never discussed who would sing. That conversation has not happened.”
