NFL Superstar Tyreek Hill Teases DJ Career After Season-Ending Injury
“Coming to play house music near you,” Hill said.
The NFL season looks different when you’re recovering from a gruesome knee injury and questioning whether you’ll ever play again. For Tyreek Hill, the league’s fastest wide receiver, it involves learning to DJ.
The 31-year-old superstar, known as “Cheetah” for his blazing speed on the field, saw his season end when he suffered the severe injury in a late-September Dolphins win over the Jets. According to NFL.com, Hill’s “career could be nearing an end” and he appears to be exploring life after football, which apparently means becoming a DJ.
“Coming to play house music near you,” he wrote on X earlier in the month of November.
The eight-time Pro Bowler then hinted further at a transition into DJing this week, posting footage on social media of himself working a Pioneer DDJ-1000 controller (or at least attempting to). “Up to Something, the type that turn to Some thing,” he captioned the video.
Hill can run a 4.29-second 40-yard dash, but is finding out those reflexes don’t quite translate to DJ equipment. The clip shows him mixing Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” into Justin Timberlake’s “My Love,” but his transition wasn’t nearly as clean as the tear of his ACL. However, learning how to beat-match instead of using the controversial sync button puts him ahead of many others starting out.
If he does ultimately pursue DJing professionally, Hill will follow in the footsteps of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who launched a career in dubstep production back in 2020 and has since performed at Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas and Lollapalooza, among other major festivals.
Fellow NFL superstar Bijan Robinson has also dabbled in the craft of DJing, launching a web series called “Spin Zone” in which he sharpens his skills with the help of established acts in the EDM scene. The Atlanta Falcons running back has invited Louis The Child, Austin Millz and more high-profile electronic artists as guests.
