Believe it or not, it’s not too early for new Christmas songs for 2025 to start making an appearance. While the annual return of festive favourites from Mariah Carey, Wham! and East 17 is inevitable once the holiday playlists kick in. Nonetheless, it’s always refreshing to see pop newcomers and independent artists throwing their own original holiday offerings into the mix.
My first taste of Christmas 2025 came courtesy of rising synth-pop and indie artist Samuel Evanson. His track “Christmas Bells” made its debut during his immensely enjoyable set at the EQ Music New Music Showcase in October at The Camden Club. I was especially excited for Samuel’s performance. I’ve had my eye on him for a while and was hoping to feature him on the blog soon, so it was a real treat to find him on the showcase lineup.
Notably, Samuel’s voice was soul-stirring and full of character, perfectly matched by a magnetic stage presence that held the audience captivated. There’s absolutely no doubt this artist has an illustrious future ahead. And while the debut of a Christmas song might have come as a surprise to me, “Christmas Bells” made quite the impression.
The track is a song of hope, one that gently erases fleeting doubts. Its lyrics tell the story of a blossoming relationship, where the ringing of Christmas bells symbolises expectation and optimism. It’s an uplifting and heartfelt narrative that feels perfectly timed for the season, reminding us of peace, hope, and kindness.
Directed and produced by Samuel, music video adds another layer of emotion to “Christmas Bells.” Samuel takes us on a reflective winter walk, his vocals echoing against the stillness of a snow-dusted evening. As twinkling Christmas lights spill from the window of a nearby home, the visuals frame his search for love and meaning with a quietly cinematic touch.
With “Christmas Bells,” Samuel Evanson delivers a festive moment that’s as emotionally resonant as it is joyful. A promising sign of what’s to come from this emerging artist.
