EMERGING ARTISTS: SISTRA – EQ Music Blog
No one came knocking to introduce me to Sistra. I actually stumbled upon this fabulous sibling duo when the Great Escape Festival dropped its first fifty artist announcements for the 2026 edition. And honestly, what a discovery! Ever since pressing play on their latest release, “Things I Really Mean,” I’ve been completely obsessed. The kind of obsession where you fall down a Spotify rabbit hole and resurface hours later, perplexed, wondering how this band wasn’t already on my radar.
Sistra’s dreamy alt-pop sound immediately pulled me in. Think The Japanese House, MUNA, Charli XCX, and The 1975 — all swirling together in a pristine haze of synths and emotion. The sisters started creating music during lockdown, quietly honing their craft as an independent act. Since then, they’ve landed syncs on Love Island and Made in Chelsea and earned attention from BBC Introducing, proving that their sound travels effortlessly between the bedroom and the mainstream.
Listening through their catalogue, Sistra already sound, fully formed — sleek, emotional, and totally addictive. Yet there’s still this exciting sense that their real breakout moment is coming. “Things I Really Mean” feels like that turning point. It’s a shimmering, emotionally charged slice of alt-pop that captures the duo’s core essence: honest storytelling set to dreamy, forward-thinking production.
According to Sasha, one half of the duo:
“I fell in love for the first time this year and I’m still not sure what this does to my relationship with my sister. Who is number one?”
That line says it all. It’s heartfelt, introspective, and just the kind of emotional honesty that keeps me coming back for more. With “Things I Really Mean,” Sistra don’t just sound like ones to watch. They in fact sound like pop’s next big emotional connection waiting to happen.
If they’re not already on your radar, fix that immediately.
