Lately, I’ve been reminiscing about 2022, particularly when The Knocks joined forces with Dragonette for the captivating track “Slow Song.” This sultry disco-infused gem, featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race Series 10 Winner (USA) Aquaria in its striking music video, truly encapsulates a delightful sense of nostalgia. Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson of The Knocks reflected on this collaboration, stating: “Working with Martina [Dragonette] and creating a record together feels like coming full circle, as our very first tour as The Knocks was alongside Dragonette.” It’s an exhilarating thought, and I wholeheartedly agree. So much so, I’d be eager to see The Knocks and Dragonette release another collaboration that builds on this electrifying partnership.
In any event, it’s inspiring to see artists coming together to create new music. Therefore, I’m thrilled that The Knocks, have teamed up once again with Martina Sorbara of the electro-pop group Dragonette. Their latest track, “Revelation,” invites listeners to immerse themselves in vibrant synth-pop soundscapes, highlighting their collaborative synergy. The campaign creatively sets the scene in a 1980s corporate liminal space, at the fictional Revelation Technologies, which adds a unique visual element to the project. Additionally, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Aquaria returns as the muse for the trailer videos, further enhancing the artistic vision behind “Revelation.”
I appreciate the unique dynamics between these two artists. It’s interesting to observe how their collaborations consistently lead them to experiment with an 80s synth-pop throwback style. Simply because this is something that doesn’t usually feature in their solo projects. By joining forces and sharing their musical ideas, they open up a creative avenue that embraces the 80s. What’s even more impressive is how skillfully they pull it off, almost as if they’ve crafted a fresh track straight from 1985. This collaboration really showcases their versatility and ability to innovate while paying homage to a beloved era.
