Country star Megan Moroney has a new album coming out soon. Like many musicians, she sometimes takes inspiration from her real life. The singer opened up about writing about her ex-boyfriends.

Megan Moroney got her big break in country music after her “Tennessee Orange” song went viral in 2022. The song tells the story of a football rivalry turned love story when a Tennessee fan and a Georgia fan fall in love. Megan Moroney grew up in Douglasville, Georgia.

Part of the reason why the song went viral was that listeners thought it was about Morgan Wallen. Megan Moroney has also been linked to singer Riley Green. She was most recently linked to NFL player Nick Bosa, who plays with the 49ers.

Megan Moroney later clarified her relationship with Morgan Wallen. She said they were never officially dating but had a brief connection.

Her career really took off after she spent 2024 touring with Kenny Chesney. She went on a solo tour in 2025 to promote her second studio album. The Am I Okay? Tour wrapped up in October, but Megan Moroney wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

She revealed on social media that she was releasing a Live album from the concerts. “I’ve decided the only way I can possibly come to terms with this chapter ending is knowing that we’ll have the entire show to listen back to whenever we want… and we get to relive these memories forever,” she wrote.

With the tour behind her, Megan Moroney is looking forward to her next album. She’s releasing the album’s first single, “Beautiful Things,” on Friday, October 24. She recently chatted with the Today Show ahead of the song’s release.

The singer was asked if she lets the real people in her life know when a song is about them. She replied that she doesn’t tell “everyone.”

“I definitely, well, not everyone, actually. But the people, like, ‘Heaven By Noon,’ I like let my aunt know, I called her. and ‘The Girls,’ obviously I showed my friends. They were in like the lyric video canvas teaser thing, so they knew,” she said.

However, when it comes to her breakup anthems, she keeps it to herself. “But like as far as me writing about my ex-boyfriends, I usually don’t give them heads up,” she admitted.

Megan Moroney’s candid admission about her songs sparked curiosity from one fan. They asked, “Spill the tea Megan, who are your songs really about?” But the singer is keeping that to herself, at least for now.

Many artists pull inspiration from their own lives. Do you think they have a responsibility to give a heads up before releasing the song?
