Reba McEntire Gives Fans Life Update At 70
Reba McEntire turned 70 earlier this year. The singer reached stardom after growing up in humble beginnings in McAlester, Oklahoma. She shared an update on what her life is like now and why her 70s are her best era yet.
Reba McEntire Shares Secret Engagement
The COVID pandemic was a horrible time. But it was an unexpected blessing for Reba McEntire. When the world was shut down, she reconnected with an old friend, Rex Linn. They’d starred together in The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw in 1991. The pair had stayed friends for decades.
They spent the quarantine getting to know each other again over video calls. The couple revealed in September that they were engaged after five years of dating. But in an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Reba McEntire revealed a secret.
Rex Linn had proposed in late 2024 but they kept it to themselves for months. “I’ve never been loved by a man like Rex Linn. Rex is a very tender-hearted man, and I just love him with all my heart. He’s a good guy. Real bashful though,” she gushed about her fiance.
The two currently star on Reba’s new NBC sitcom, Happy’s Place. Season 2 of the popular show premieres on Friday, November 7.
In the meantime, fans can see her on The Voice. She returned as a coach for Season 28 alongside Michael Bublé, Niall Horan, and Snoop Dogg. What about her own music career?
Legendary Country Star Opens Up About Retirement
Reba McEntire has the most number one hits of any female country singer, including her long-time friend, Dolly Parton. The “Fancy” opened up in a cover feature with PEOPLE about the possibility of retiring.
She said she doesn’t have a timeline for retirement, maybe “20 years” from now. Reba McEntire shares Dolly Parton’s playbook for retirement. “I think I’ll know when it’s the time. Dolly [Parton] and I talked about that an awful lot when she did the Reba show, and I said, ‘Are you going to retire?’ She said, ‘Why would I? What in the world could I do and have as much fun as what I’m doing in this job right now?’ I agree with her a hundred percent. Slow down, maybe, but no plans of retiring,” Reba told PEOPLE.
Life Lesson She’s Learned At 70
Reba McEntire isn’t slowing down at 70, but she is looking at life through a different lens. She opened up about her change in perspective from living for tomorrow or yesterday and focusing on today instead.
“I used to think being content was a no-no, because if you’re content, you’re not going to strive to continue to do better. That’s not true because you always try to improve your health,” the “Is There Life Out There” singer said.
She shared the one piece of advice she gives out the most on The Voice: “Enjoy every minute.” Reba McEntire sure is enjoying every minute of her 70s.
