EQ Music Interview with Stefan Gold
In this EQ Music interview with Stefan Gold, the Italian-born, London-based pop performer, songwriter, and DJ talks about creating empowering anthems that celebrate the queer community and inspire confidence both on and off the dance floor. He opens up about his vibrant single “SLAY!” — a pride anthem radiating positivity and resilience — and gives us a sneak peek into his upcoming release “Black Jesus,” set to drop just before Halloween. With a flair for theatrical pop and influences from icons like Madonna, Britney, and Prince, Stefan Gold brings unapologetic energy and heart to everything he does.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from? Where are you living? What kind of music do you make?
I’m Stefan Gold and I am a performer, songwriter and DJ born in Italy but based in London. My music is mainly made to celebrate the queer community and my desire is to deliver Pop Anthems with catchy beats and empowering lyrics… I wanna make the listeners feel confident, seen, and unstoppable on and off the dance floor!
We are very excited to be featuring you on our New Music Showcase on 24th October at the Camden Club in London, tell us a little bit about what you are going to bring to us on the stage.
I will be performing some of my original music, my latest release “SLAY!” made as an Anthem for Pride in London and I’ll be giving you a special “GIFT” from the bottom of my heart, in fact I’ll be premiering only for you, my new song “Black Jesus” coming out just before Halloween, one of my favourite festivities!
We love “SLAY!” – tell us a little bit more about this song/project.
SLAY! was born to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community as I’m obviously part of it and felt like I had to use my artistry to show support, especially after what’s been going on lately in the world…it feels like we are going backwards and being gay, bi, trans or whoever you are isn’t safe anymore! My heart goes especially to the trans community as they are the most targeted group in terms of discrimination, hate and violence. Some of the lyrics in my song are “you’re a number one – be proud like you’re a fabulous queen – don’t give up, you’re light will be seen”. I really hope this song will inspire people to be themselves and stand tall, with no fear.
When it come to music influences, who are your greatest heroes in the pop music space both legacy and new?
There’s so many great artists who influenced me and my music… I’m definitely a 90’s baby but I’ve also always loved the magic of the 80’s…the beat, choreographies, shows…I’m gonna have to say Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, and the one and only Britney Spears made me fall in love with pop music and performing…I realised I had to be a performer after watching her MTV EMA’s 1999 live performance! It was a mashup of a jazzy version of “Baby One More Time” and “Crazy”. I cried! I wanted to be that! But I MUST mention Madonna, as the reason why I am the artist you see today. My love and admiration for this woman is limitless and to this day she’s definitely the one who inspired me the most! Some new artists that caught my attention are surely Chappell Roan, Doechii, Raye and Sabrina Carpenter!
What was the last concert or gig you went to?
Madonna’s Celebration Tour – a greatest hits tour…couldn’t miss it! I went twice and still paying my friend back for the tickets, LOL! but it was so worth it…and I finally realised my dream of seeing Madonna super close. I could almost touch her and I would spend all my money for that again and again! Amazing show!
