Yellow Claw Drop 10-Year Anniversary Edition of Influential Debut Album, “Blood For Mercy”
The album that fueled the rise of global trap music returns with added firepower a decade later.
Before trap music was a festival staple it was an emerging wave, and in 2015, Blood For Mercy saw Yellow Claw go all in. A decade later, the Dutch duo’s breakout album still hits different.
Blood For Mercy now returns 10 years after its seismic debut, remastered and reloaded with new remixes via Mad Decent. The 18-track anniversary offering sharpens the edges of a project that once dared to reshape the fabric of trap music.
“Many of the songs on Blood For Mercy are a testament to the time we came up when the trap genre was first making waves and inspired us greatly. It was first done in the US, and from that moment on, it was our goal to go there,” Yellow Claw explained in a statement. “It all started when we saw the DJs there play our songs. Not long after, we got booked to play shows ourselves. That was just off of our SoundCloud stuff. When we got our break, we focused on doing a full album to show people we were more than just SoundCloud producers and be able to make a full body of work.”
The original release helped define EDM’s SoundCloud-era trap movement with breakout anthems like “In My Room” (with Ty Dolla $ign and Tyga) and “Catch Me” (with Flux Pavilion and Naaz), and it helped put promising artists like Cesqeaux on the map. In an era dominated by big room house, Yellow Claw combined hip-hop grit with explosive bass and wonky textures to bolster the movement.
“At this time, the only thing you heard in clubs and festivals was big room house,” they continued. “That’s what it was all about. People at labels even told us, ‘Why don’t you make big room? It’s much easier to get big.’ But we followed our hearts instead and did what we thought was fucking cool. And yes, that was very, very new and insecure, but it was more exciting than following the herd.”
Blood For Mercy went on to top Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and earned Yellow Claw an Edison Award, one of the Netherlands’ highest music honors. Now, with trap surging back through a new generation of producers, their decision to bet on their own sound feels increasingly prophetic.
Yellow Claw’s 2025 revamp sees tracks like “Till It Hurts” and “Roller” landing with fresh clarity while new remixes bring an even broader creative perspective, including one from the duo’s house music alias, €URO TRA$H.
