EQ Music Interview with Minx

In this EQ Music interview with Minx, the London-based pop-rap firecracker opens up about her unapologetically fierce sound that fuses hip hop, house, and Latin influences. She talks about her explosive live energy ahead of her EQ Music Showcase performance, her raw and deeply personal single “Dopamine” and how she channels complex themes like addiction, ADHD, and recovery into music that makes you move and think. With her bold lyrics and fearless creativity, Minx proves that pop can be provocative, powerful, and full of heart.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from? Where are you living? What kind of music do you make?
I’m Minx I’m a songwriter from London making high energy pop rap with hip hop, house and Latin influences.

We are very excited to be featuring you on our New Music Showcase on 24th October at The Camden Club in London, tell us a little bit about what you are going to bring to us on the stage.
It’s going to be octane, fierce and fabulous. Big beats and provocative lyrics covering drug addiction, ADHD, sex addiction and the patriarchy! That sounds heavy (laughs) but it’s a full fat vibe, this is music to dance to and loose yourself in.

We love “Dopamine” – tell us a little bit about this song/project.
“Dopamime” is a foray into the desperation felt by anyone suffering with ADHD or addiction or like me, both! The frenzied need to feel better to feel different to feel normal. The futile necessity for instant gratification because that low dopamine is REAL and makes you feel so fucking empty and unenthused. Remember If you or a loved one are struggling speak out and seek help. It can be done, we do recover ❤️‍🩹

When it comes to music influences, who are your greatest heroes in the pop music space both legacy and new?
Madonna is mother obviously. I tend to lean towards artists that are true creatives and pioneers. Mostly artists that are either queer or queer adjacent often drawing from the rich pool of creativity and culture in the LGBTQIA+ community. People like Lada Gaga and Janelle Monet. I adore anything Latin so artists like Rosalia and Kali Uchis are on repeat for me too.

What was the last concert or gig you went to?
Last gig I went to was Honey Dijon at Drumsheds. It was so dope… I’m sober and I went with another sober friend we managed to stay til the bitter end which is a testament to Honeys skills.

Any parting words for our EQ Music Blog readers?
I know so many of us suffer from addiction in one form or another or have to battle with neurological disorders like ADHD and autism and I’m just glad we live in such a connected world where we can share our stories, experience, hope and coping mechanisms. We are blessed to have many means of support and channels to express ourselves and raise awareness. I am grateful for the medium of song to share my experiences and help close the gap. “Dopamime” is out Nov 1st and available for pre-save now. If you are touched by any of this go check it out, will definitely resonate with you. Love and blessings…
