EQ Music Interview with Gio X
In this EQ Music interview with Gio X, we talk about his debut single “Kiss” and its striking desert-shot music video, the emotional storytelling behind his electro-pop sound, and what fans can expect from his upcoming EP Liquid Mercury. He also gives us a taste of the high-energy, dance-fueled performance he’ll be bringing to our New Music Showcase at The Camden Club on October 24th, along with the pop icons who continue to inspire his music today.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from? Where are you living? What kind of music do you make?
Hello, I’m Gio, from Greece and been living in London for 13 years. My music is electro pop. I blend emotional lyrics with bold beats and synths. I turn heartbreak into something you can dance to.
We are very excited to be featuring you on our New Music Showcase on 24th October at The Camden Club in London, tell us a little bit about what you are going to bring to us on the stage.
I am ready to share my most personal work. Songs inspired by relationships, heartbreak, and my life in the big city, in a dynamic set, with electronic beats, high energy visuals and a lot of dancing!
We love “Kiss” – tell us a little bit about this song/project.
My debut single “Kiss” was written by me and produced by Lostchild. It is the first single from my upcoming EP Liquid Mercury. The music video was shot over 3 days in the desert. All sweat and sand, but worth it! The idea behind it is that the desert feels lonely and exposed, just like the emotion in the song. The black horse is a symbol of freedom and wanting something you can’t quite reach.
When it comes to music influences, who are your greatest heroes in the pop music space both legacy and new?
My latest work has influences from Tove Lo, Robyn, Hurts, and Years & Years. I grew up listening to Avril Lavigne, Anastacia and The Pussycat Dolls.
What was the last concert or gig you went to?
Marina Satti at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. She has the most explosive energy. Highly recommended!
Any parting words for our EQ Music Blog readers?
I am working full of excitement with a bunch of talented people to create my set for EQ. I cannot wait to sing and dance and sweat for you!
