EVANESCENCE Reunited With PAUL MCCOY For “Bring Me To Life” At Louder Than Life

Fans at this year’s Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, KY were treated to a rare reunion on Sunday, September 21, when Evanescence closed their set with a special performance of their breakthrough hit “Bring Me To Life.”

Joining the band onstage was Paul McCoy of 12 Stones, who originally provided guest vocals on the track. The moment marked the first time since 2016 that McCoy has performed the song live with Evanescence.

“Bring Me To Life,” which appeared on the band’s 2003 debut album Fallen, went on to achieve diamond certification in the U.S. and remains one of the most recognizable singles of the 2000s alternative metal era. The track also earned the group a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, cementing Evanescence‘s place in heavy music history.

At Louder Than Life festival, Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee sat down with PK of ALT 105.1 to discuss the band’s current run of shows and offer an update on their next album. Lee explained that the group is in a transitional phase, balancing material from across their catalog while preparing to unveil new music.

“We’re in this kind of in-between phase right now because we were touring our last album, The Bitter Truth, for quite a while and doing a show that had, obviously, songs from all the other albums, but it was centered around that theme and started with that intro and was that thing,” Lee said.

“And we’re midway through the process of making our next album now. So we just have a handful of shows this year, and it’s that moment where we’re, like, ‘Well, we can’t just like do the old thing anymore,’ and ‘we can’t do the new songs…’ Well, we have two new songs, and we can work them in. But it’s kind of — I don’t know — it’s a weird teenager phase of what we’re doing. It is fun, though. It’s perfect for the festival setup, ’cause if we have — like tonight we have an hour. We can jam-pack an hour full of cool [stuff], like a hit from every album and just make it really fun.”

Pressed further about where the band is at in the recording process, Lee revealed: “I’d say we’re more than halfway. We’re really getting there. [I’m] really excited about it.”

When asked if Evanescence‘s recent single “Afterlife” — written for Netflix’s Devil May Cry series — would end up on the upcoming record, Lee hinted that it likely will: “I think so. I don’t see why not. We haven’t really gotten into the track list and that yet, but I think we have all the songs that are gonna be on it at least started, so we’re in that moment of finessing and beautifying and writing lyrics and doing the hard stuff where I slam my head up against the wall.”
