Inside the Rebuild of Amnesia’s Legendary Ibiza Sound System
We spoke with KV2 Audio, the team behind the ambitious venture, whose new system was praised as “pure perfection” by Amnesia owner Martín Ferrer Vega.
Have you ever heard an audio engineering love story?
One has been unfolding all summer at Amnesia, the storied Ibiza clubbing institution that has witnessed more musical epiphanies than a parrot who learned the lyrics to Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You.” After launching way back in 1976, the venue will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, but not before an ambitious overhaul of its entire audio setup.
You don’t casually redesign the sound system at Amnesia. So when KV2 Audio got the call to completely reimagine the acoustics of this hallowed ground, the stakes couldn’t have been higher.
Fresh off their acclaimed work rebuilding the sound in Amnesia’s Main Room in 2022, KV2’s engineers set their sights on the club’s crown jewel: its legendary Terrace. With a goal to “set a fresh global benchmark,” their solution was installing a dizzying array of wide-dispersion loudspeakers, mid-bass units, amplifiers and subwoofers that could probably register on earthquake measurement devices.
“A 50-year legacy puts Amnesia on a truly global stage, so ‘good enough’ wasn’t an option,” KV2 explains to EDM.com.

The challenge was architectural as much as acoustic, since every surface of Amnesia reflects sound differently and every corner presents its own puzzle. The KV2 crew had to ensure that whether you’re camping out in front of the DJ booth or nursing a drink by the bar, you experience the same crystalline sound.
“[The Terrace] is huge, roofed with glass and filled with 4,000 people at sunrise. Acoustically, it’s a challenge,” KV2 explains. “The KV2 solution—SL412 loudspeakers, VHD mid-bass units and 16 VHD2.18J subs—covers every corner without distortion. Even the bar and VIP areas have their own perfectly tuned systems. The challenge that we had to overcome was to ensure that wherever you stand, you hear the same balance of power and clarity.”
Longtime Amnesia resident CAAL, who has been DJing at the venue for over 10 years, describes the result as “music in its purest state.” Behind this poetic language, however, lies serious engineering muscle.
KV2’s proprietary Super Live Audio technology delivers what they claim are the lowest distortion rates and highest sampling frequencies in professional audio. In non-music nerd terms, that means you can dance until the Mediterranean sun burns your retinas without worrying about ear damage.
Visiting Amnesia at the peak of Ibiza’s summer season in July, the EDM.com team witnessed firsthand that ocean-deep sound. At the time, CAAL told us he’d never been more excited to DJ there.

For CAAL and the many other illustrious DJs commanding the stage at this bastion of Ibiza nightlife, KV2 needed to achieve a high level of flexibility. The outcome, the team said, is that DJs hear exactly what the crowd hears so the “connection between booth and dancefloor feels seamless.”
“The new system adapts to different booth positions and performance styles with simple configuration changes,” they explained. “DJs get reference-quality monitoring from ESD312s and ESR units, letting them mix with audiophile precision.”
Stéphane Schweitzer, partner at Amnesia, cuts through the technical jargon: “No matter what headlining talents you have, if you can’t listen to their music the right way, it won’t be worth it.” The club’s owner and CEO, Martín Ferrer Vega, put it in even simpler terms, praising the Terrace’s new sound system as “pure perfection.”
As Ibiza’s 2025 season reaches its crescendo, so too does Amnesia. The club is poised for a massive two-day closing party October 10-11, with performances by Amelie Lens, Deborah De Luca, Nina Kraviz, 999999999, Ben Hemsley and more. Tickets are available here.
