“Corniest People I’ve Ever Seen”: Yves Tumor Lashes Out After Swedish House Mafia Fans Boo Him Off Stage
Tumor’s opening set at Arthur Ashe Stadium ended abruptly amid persistent jeers from SHM fans, who the artist called “sub humans.”
Experimental musician Yves Tumor was met with boos and jeers Thursday night during an opening set for Swedish House Mafia at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, cutting his set short before lashing out at fans.
The artist, whose real name is Sean Bowie, delivered a set that failed to resonate with the crowd of electronic music enthusiasts who had gathered to see the iconic Swedish supergroup become the stadium’s first-ever EDM headliner. At one point, Bowie remarked, “I’m still getting paid for this” before leaving the stage, according to an EDM.com team member in attendance.
In a series of Instagram Stories posted after the performance, Tumor defended his set while unleashing a scathing critique of both the audience and New York City itself. The video also shows Bowie destroying a poster of the city, a gesture many found distasteful considering the show took place on September 11th.
“I just got booed off stage for playing the best set of the night by a bunch of the corniest people I’ve ever seen in my fucking life,” Bowie said. “This city is truly hell on earth. I thought LA was bad. I thought Berlin was bad. I thought Paris was bad.”
The backlash extended beyond the venue as Bowie took to Instagram to share screenshots of negative messages from Swedish House Mafia fans, referring to these critics as “sub humans.”
Swedish House Mafia, the group comprising Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, have not addressed the controversy surrounding their opening act. You can watch footage of the incident below.
