Listen to Subtronics, Wooli and LEVEL UP’s Wonky Dubstep Banger, “Dingus”

The trio has introduced the EDM community to Dr. Dingus, a fictional figure who crashes their collaboration with both mystery and menace.

Subtronics, Wooli and LEVEL UP have joined forces to release “Dingus,” a madcap banger that might be the closest thing dubstep has to sketch comedy.

Out now via Subtronics’ label, Cyclops Recordings, the new track introduces a character named Dr. Dingus, a cartoonish ringleader whose absurdity drives the arrangement forward. The result is a festival banger from three of today’s most beloved stateside dubstep producers.

Subtronics’ knack for squelchy textures, Wooli’s heavyweight low end and LEVEL UP’s playful unpredictability come together like some sort of Frankensteinian dubstep oddball, stitched with humor rather than fury. The drops land with each artist’s trademark intensity, but the comedic timing of the vocals gives the track its differentiator, even mentioning Skrillex at one point.

A lot of today’s dubstep is formulated with nothing but sheer intensity in mind, but these producers are out to prove that it’s not about brute force anymore—personality and character are just as important. Just ask the mysterious Dr. Dingus, who doesn’t tell a linear story, but creates a shared inside joke that fans can latch onto in a live setting.
