DEFTONES’ New Album Private Music Is Pretty Damn Popular

Per Billboard, Deftones‘ highly anticipated tenth studio album private music has debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, moving 87,000 album-equivalent units in its first week of release.

Of that total, 66,000 units were driven by pure album sales, while the remaining figure was powered by 26.72 million on-demand streams.

The Sacramento alt-metal veterans have been riding a major resurgence in recent years, and private music has easily outpaced the first-week numbers of their last release, 2020’s Ohms. That album also entered the Billboard 200 at No. 5 but with a much smaller tally of 49,000 units.

Still, the band’s career-best opening week remains 2000’s landmark White Pony, which entered at No. 3 with 178,000 copies sold. The updated Billboard 200 chart reflecting private music‘s performance will be published on September 3, one day later than usual due to the Labor Day holiday. You can also catch Deftones at one of their many tour dates below in support of the new record. Get your tickets here.
