Randy Travis’ Doctors Nearly Pulled The Plug After Stroke
Randy Travis was on the brink of death in 2013. His doctors didn’t have any hope that he would recover and urged his wife, Mary Travis, to take him off life support. His wife revealed why she didn’t pull the plug and let him pass.
Randy Travis Biopic In The Works
Randy Travis’ life story is about to go to Hollywood. The country star rose to immediate fame in 1986 with the release of his debut album. Storms of Life included the hit songs “Diggin’ Up Bones” and “On the Other Hand.” But his massive hit song came from his follow-up album. “Forever and Ever, Amen” is a song that’s still played at weddings nearly forty years after its release.
The singer hit a rough patch in 2012 on charges of drinking while intoxicated after being found in his car with alcohol. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine and probation. His troubles didn’t end there.
Randy Travis was hospitalized in 2013 for a chronic heart condition. He had a stroke while at the hospital and was put on life support. It was touch and go for a while. The singer regained consciousness but lost the ability to speak, sing, and walk. He uses a cane or wheelchair to get around.

His trials and tribulations are part of the upcoming biopic. According to PEOPLE magazine, Clay Walker will play the lead role in the singer’s later years. The longtime friend of Randy Travis had a major part in getting the film made. He reportedly brought the idea of a biopic to director Andrew Hyatt.
“I’m so glad that this story is going to get told because it deserves to get told,” Clay Walker told the outlet. The movie was also approved by Randy Travis and his wife.
No release date for the flick has been announced yet.
Singer’s Wife Says Doctors Nearly Pulled The Plug After Stroke
Randy Travis received the ACM Milestone Award earlier this month. His wife, Mary Travis, recently spoke to Fox News Digital about the time doctors told her to take the singer off life support.
It was during his 2013 hospital stay after he was in a coma. The doctors told her that was no hope of a recovery. He had gotten a staph infection and three other hospital-born bacterial viruses like Serratia, Pseudomonas, one thing after another, and the doctors were just saying, ‘He just doesn’t have the strength to get through this,’” she recounted.

But her husband sent her a sign that made her ignore the suggestion to take him off life support. That was the moment that I knew that Randy Travis was gonna make it because he squeezed my hand and a tear went down his face. And I said, ‘He’s still fighting,”” she said.
And he’s still fighting a decade later. Despite his inability to speak or sing, Randy Travis released two new songs with the use of AI. He’s also been on his More Life Tour with vocalist James Dupré singing his songs while Randy Travis and his wife are on stage.
According to Mary Travis, there may be even more music coming soon. We have folders of music that Randy has written. You know, music or songs that Randy’s written. And perhaps one of those will see the light of day,” she said.
