Texas Still Mourning Lost Flood Victims

While the rest of the country was enjoying the July Fourth weekend, a community in Texas was dealing with an unthinkable tragedy. Unexpected flash flooding tore through the Texas Hill Country region, which is about two hours from Austin, Texas.

The flood cost the lives of over 100 confirmed victims. Hundreds more are still missing. A summer camp for young girls was hit hard by the flood. Twenty-seven campers and counselors lost their lives in the tragedy.

The area was hit by more flooding less than two weeks later. The rebuilding process has just started and the area needs as much help as it can get.

The benefit hosted by George Strait sold a limited number of tickets that reportedly started at $1,000. All of the proceedings were earmarked for the flood victims.

William Beckmann, Ray Benson, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, Riley Green, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Kyle Park and Hudson Westbrook were among the artists scheduled to perform.

Those in attendance were shocked when Garth Brooks took the stage. He performed two of his biggest hits, “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” and “The Dance.”

According to Parade magazine, the benefit concert was the first time George Strait and Garth Brooks shared a stage in over a decade. Their last appearance together was at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2013.
