Tame Impala's New Single Marks the Beginning of "A New Era": Listen to "End of Summer"
Tame Impala have returned with “End of Summer,” a seven-minute voyage awash in euphoric psychedelia.
Kevin Parker infuses his signature blend of hypnotic nostalgia into the new track, which he debuted during his DJ set in Barcelona last month. While unmistakably stamped with Tame Impala’s sonic DNA, “End of Summer” fearlessly ventures into new territory, laced with hazy nods to 90s acid house and the carefree chaos of rural raves.
Stepping into a new chapter since his last single two years ago, Parker is beginning somewhat of a transformation into what a press release calls a “future primitive rave act.”
“A new era begins,” Parker wrote on social media. “This is the first thing I want you guys to hear. I give you End Of Summer.”
“End of Summer” is accompanied by a cinematic split-screen music video that plays like an emotional rewind, lingering in the bittersweet, final moments of summer. Directed by Julian Klincewicz, it effortlessly captures the golden intersection of joy, nostalgia and melancholy, when time stands still on the dancefloor. The split-screen effect reinforces this emotional coexistence, layering perspectives like overlapping memories.
While it’s unclear if “End of Summer” is a standalone release or the first glimpse into an upcoming album, one thing is certain: Parker’s experimentation with new sounds is a welcome emotional whirlwind, perfectly capturing the feeling of summer’s last slow burn.
