In one of his biggest hit songs, George Strait sings about how all his exes live in Texas, and that’s why he lives in Tennessee. While it makes a good riff, the singer was born and raised in Texas. He still lives there today, despite his massive success. In fact, he’s using his fame to raise funds after a natural disaster swept through Texas.

Floods Leave Hundreds Dead In Texas

A community in Texas is still mourning the devastating loss of life suffered earlier this month. Flash floods rushed through Kerr County unexpectedly over the July 4th holiday. As of today, there are over 120 dead, with another 100 still missing.

Some of those caught in the floods were young girls at summer camp at Camp Mystic. According to multiple reports, dozens of the young campers and camp counselors were among the death toll.

George Strait Announced Benefit

George Strait is among the country artists who immediately jumped into action to help those affected by the unprecedented storms in Texas. While politicians have spent the last week throwing blame at each other for the loss of life, George Strait and others like him are doing what they can to help the community recover.

He announced on Instagram that he’s putting on a benefit concert to raise money for those impacted by the floods. The concert, dubbed Strait To The Heart, takes place on Sunday, July 27th at Estancia at Thunder Valley arena in Boerne, Texas.

The benefit concert put a limit on the number of guests. Tickets started at $1,000. The Instagram post was updated to let fans know that the $1,000 tickets had sold out, but there were still $2,500 tickets available.

George Strait won’t be the only artist taking the stage that night. William Beckmann, Ray Benson, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, Riley Green, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Kyle Park, and Hudson Westbrook are scheduled to perform. George Strait’s Ace in the Hole band will also take the stage.

Donations for the flood victims will also be collected at the door. The event was promoted as an “intimate donor dinner and concert.” Whiskey Riff reports free tickets will be provided to local area first responders.

Fans of the singer took to the comments to praise his kind gesture. One fan wrote, “Good Ole George! Does more than the elected Texas officials do!”

Another added, “That is so awesome of the king George Strait.” A third fan simply wrote, “You are the best of them all.”

Fans previously expressed concern for George Strait’s health after his appearance at a tour stop. However, he seems to be healthy enough to plan and headline a benefit concert.

This isn’t the first time the country music community has come together to help people affected by natural disasters or other horrible situations. And it won’t be the last.
