Oliver Anthony Found Viral Success
Posting on social media and getting millions of views is the dream of many social media influencers. Oliver Anthony (real name: Christopher Anthony Lunsford) went viral in 2023 without even really trying. He released an anti-government song that took off all the way to the top of the charts. The unheard-of artist turned down offers from record labels.
But it hasn’t been an easy battle to make music on his own terms without the financial help of a major label. He hinted in October 2024 that he was quitting the music business. He said at the time that he wanted to focus on spreading the message of his faith as a traveling ministry.
Oliver Anthony’s faith is important to him and that shines through in all his music.
Despite his intention to stop making music, the music still calls to him. He’s released several songs since his hit “Rich Men North of Richmond,” but none have reached anywhere near the same success.
His new song about his bitter divorce might change that.
He Continues To Make Music Without A Label
Oliver Anthony made it quite clear that he wasn’t interested in becoming Nashville’s latest flash in the pan. In an epic rant last year, he called out the music industry for releasing the same junk songs for the last few years.
Despite not having the backing of a major label, Oliver Anthony released his debut album, Hymnal of a Troubled Man’s Mind, in March.
He returned to Joe Rogan’s podcast last week to talk about it. Oliver Anthony previously appeared on the podcast in 2023 amid his song going viral. The singer opened up about his songwriting process, revealing that he got the idea for his latest song after talking to several friends about relationships in general. “Scornful Woman” may have been inspired by his own bitter divorce.
His New Song Inspired By Bitter Divorce
When Oliver Anthony went viral in 2023, he’d just welcomed a third child with his wife, Tiffany. But, according to Distractify, she filed for divorce sometime after that. And if you ask Joe Rogan, she’s after money.
During another podcast episode with other guests, he talked about Oliver Anthony’s ex-wife going after all of the singer’s money.
“She wants everything. She wants more than half, she wants all the money that he’s gonna be making in the future,” Joe Rogan said about Oliver Anthony’s ex-wife.
Little is known about Oliver Anthony’s net worth. Multiple sources estimate it at $1 to $2 million. Not nearly as much as mainstream country music artists make, but more than he was making before his song went viral in 2023.
The lyrics to “Scornful Woman” seem to hint that it was at least partly inspired by the divorce.
“She can have all the money / And they can keep all the fame / I’d go back to being broke as a joke / If I could just get a break from the pain.”
But he told Joe Rogan that it was about bad experiences “all men” go through. “It was specific relationships, but also a collection of all the experiences that we all have had. We all had horrible relationships,” Oliver Anthony added.
