Chris Logan Talks His Start In Country Music
How did you get started in country music?
My first instance with country music was at a very young age. From the time I was born to about 4 years old my dad said he would play me all the classic country songs from George Strait to Keith Whitley to The Bellamy Brothers. After my parents split up I grew up with my mexican roots and mexican music but still would listen to some country given that I grew up on the US side of a border town. However, during the pandemic I got the opportunity to work as a studio musician and songwriter for a latin country project here in LA with a singer named Charles Jones. Through this project I refreshed my memory with all the country music my father would play for me when I was a kid. We worked on dozens of tunes which included covers of classic country songs and gave them a latin twist. That project was the start to what we are currently doing with the Border Town Sound.
Have you made the move to Nashville yet?
I have not but I am planning to make it out soon. I have never been but I’ve had the itch to visit for the longest time. Los Angeles is home right now and where we have cultivated the Border Town Sound but we are definitely having conversations to see how we can take this project on the road and make Nashville one of our stops.
Chris Logan Talks New Music And His Story
Tell us about your third song that just came out and how we can listen.
Our latest single is titled “Falling Again”. It is a blend of all the sounds we grew up listening to on the US/Mexico Border. That includes country, folk, bluegrass, ranchera, norteño and banda. It is available on all streaming platforms and you can find me under Chris Logan, The Border Town Kid.
Tell us a bit of your story.
My father is from New Orleans, Louisiana and my mother is from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I was born in Fort Bragg right outside of Fayetteville, North Carolina. We moved a lot when I was young because my dad was in the air force. At the age of 4 my parents split which caused my mother and I to move to the small border town of Nogales, Arizona. This is where I would learn to be fluent in Spanish, learn about my Mexican roots, and be exposed to a vast array of different musical genres from both sides of the border fence. On the US side I would hear everything from country, folk, blues, jazz, rap, and rock and roll but then on the Mexico side I would hear everything from mariachi, banda, norteño ranchera and many other genres. All those genres continue to reside in me from the 14 years I lived in Nogales and have brought them over to LA to create our own unique sound that not only represents us but where we come from.
