Dolly Parton Admits Difficult Time After Husband’s Death

Dolly Parton took to social media in March to share heartbreaking news with the world. Her husband, Carl Dean, had passed away at the age of 82. While her husband stayed out of the public eye, the couple were married for almost 60 years. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary later this month.

She revealed that her husband had been sick for a while. The “Jolene” singer previously said that she stopped touring to stay home to take care of him.

How is the petite star doing two months since losing her husband? She gave an update on the TODAY show this week. With emotion in her voice, Dolly admitted that it’s been an “adjustment” without her husband. She noted that “patterns and habits” have changed and that’s hard to accept.

She reminded viewers that she’d been with her husband for most of her life. “I’ve loved him since I was 18 years old,” she said. Dolly Parton did everything she could to keep her marriage fresh.

In 2021, she recreated her iconic Playboy cover for her husband’s 79th birthday. Dolly Parton may seem wholesome now, but she was quite the vixen back in the day. She posed for the men’s magazine in 1978.

What Keeps Her Going Amid Heartbreak

Dolly Parton gave a huge shout out to her fans amid the grief. She revealed that she received cards, flowers, and well wishes from all over the world after her husband’s death.

Dolly Parton has been in the entertainment business even longer than she was married. She began her career as a teenager. Despite turning 79 this year, she hasn’t slowed down a bit.

In the wake of her husband’s death, she released a new song she’d written as a tribute. “If You Hadn’t Been There” credits her husband for her success. He was always there to support her.

She told the daytime talk show hosts that she’s been keeping busy to help cope with her husband’s death. She recently made an appearance at Dollywood’s huge anniversary celebration.

Another thing that keeps Dolly Parton busy is preparing for her life story to hit Broadway. The musical is slated to start its run next year after a preview in Nashville earlier this year. She said on the TODAY show that being “very involved” in her work helps her deal with losing her husband of so many years.
