With so many artists wrapping up 2025 with deluxe editions and surprise anniversary drops, it feels only natural that Aussie pop princess, Kylie Minogue, would revisit her shimmering 2015 festive record “Kylie Christmas“. Over the past decade, the album has quietly—okay, not that quietly—cemented itself as a modern Christmas classic. But Kylie isn’t simply dusting off the tinsel and reissuing the same tracklist. No, she’s gifting us three brand-new originals, adding even more sparkle to her already beloved holiday collection, newly titled as “Kylie Christmas (fully wrapped)”.
Among these additions is the gloriously bloggable electro-pop standout “Hot in December,” which instantly positions itself as the crown jewel of the update.
“It’s a pop song disguised as a Christmas song. I mean, it’s uber pop,” Kylie says—and she’s absolutely right. Sonically, it wouldn’t feel out of place in the early ‘90s, echoing the same wintery-but-not-really energy as East 17’s “Stay Another Day.” It’s a shame it wasn’t selected as the lead focus track for the reissue, though it’s easy to understand why “Office Party” received the full video treatment. Its cheeky, playful storyline lends itself perfectly to the kind of silly-season visuals. I am loving that Kylie gets to ham up. And honestly? She makes the most of it.
“We knew it was a banger,” she tells Apple Music. “[Songwriter] Sarah Hudson sent me that particular song about four years ago. She’s very OTT. She was like, ‘Girl, you need a Christmas song, I got your Christmas song!’ And I was like, ‘I don’t need one right now, but it is a good track…’ So I thought I should revisit that. We adapted it a little bit, but that one came pretty fully baked.”
As someone famously impossible to impress with Christmas music, Kylie has somehow done the unthinkable: “Hot in December” has melted my Snow Queen-core heart. I’m even tempted to make it my get-up alarm for the holidays. (Who am I kidding?) I’ll absolutely be sleeping in and embracing full relaxation mode when I can. Although rest assured, this sparkling little banger will be soundtracking the season regardless.
