The Wiggles Reaffirm Family Values After Parents Complain About Drug Lyrics

“The Wiggles do not support or condone the use of drugs in any form.”

The beloved Australian children’s entertainment group The Wiggles have issued a statement after a TikTok video showing members of the troupe dancing to a song with drug references was removed from the platform following parental complaints.

The incident comes roughly 18 months after The Wiggles topped Australian dance charts with an album of rave remixes titled The Wiggles Soundsystem: Rave of Innocence. The controversial clip featured Blue Wiggle, the pseudonym of band member Anthony Field, performing alongside Keli Holiday, the solo project of Peking Duk’s Adam Hyde, set to the latter’s track “Ecstasy.” The song contains explicit lyrics referencing the drug, including the line: “Hey girl, come on, dance with me / You and your pocket full of ecstasy.”

The video surfaced after Hyde and Field shared the stage November 26th at the TikTok Awards, where they performed the former’s song “Dancing2.” However, the subsequently posted clip used different music, sparking immediate backlash from parents who deemed the content inappropriate for a children’s brand.

The Wiggles clarified that the video, which has since been removed by Hyde, was created and edited without their knowledge or consent.

“The Wiggles do not support or condone the use of drugs in any form,” a spokesperson said in a statement provided to The West Australian. “The content being shared was not created or approved by us, and we have asked for it to be removed.”

“While Keli Holiday (Adam Hyde) is a friend of The Wiggles, the video and the music added to it were created independently and without our knowledge.”

They also stated that their performances for the TikTok Awards had been “family-friendly,” but the video in question was “edited together separately and without our awareness.”

The Wiggles are now poised for a North American tour, “Tree of Wisdom Spectacular,” next summer. The tour kicks off August 12th in Orlando before heading to Atlanta, Philadelphia and Boston, among other major cities.
