Watch “Erotomania” by Stan Pratt

After a relatively short but tantalising lead-up, Introspectator — the debut EP from London’s very own self-proclaimed “Pop Girlie Boy,” Stan Pratt, has officially arrived. I’ll admit, my anticipation for this project has been sky-high ever since I immersed myself in his captivating teaser tracks. From the chic, tongue-in-cheek flair of Je Ne Sais Quoi, to the haunting alt-pop pull of Dopamine Beast, and the emotive, dream-soaked Cry Me Rivers. Above all, it was abundantly clear that Stan was building toward something special.

Subsequently, what stands out immediately when listening to “Introspectator” is just how confidently he steps into his artistry. For an independent emerging act, Stan displays a striking cohesion, a brilliant grasp of musicality, and an instinct for writing lyrics that twist away from the expected. The result? A maximalist alt-pop debut that feels fully formed.

Unquestionably, across its five tracks, “Introspectator proves itself an utterly compelling immersive experience. Stan invites us into his alt-pop realm with remarkable ease. And once inside, the alluring dark-pop textures make it hard to come back up for air. It’s a record that pulls you in and refuses to let go — and frankly, I didn’t want to move away from it.

To mark the release, Stan has unveiled the first full music video from the solo project: Erotomania.” The track itself is a catchy alt-pop gem, but its concept spins into deliciously twisted territory. The narrative follows an obsessed fan convinced they’re in a relationship with their celebrity crush.

Although “you’d never guess the concept from how much it makes you want to dance,” Stan notes. “That’s kind of the point of “Introspectator“, though: taking heavy or strange ideas and dressing them up in something beautiful, ironic or fun.”

After becoming thoroughly enraptured by the teaser tracks, visualisers and lyric videos, I’d been salivating for a full-fledged official video moment. And likewise, it delivers. Directed by Tim Bunn, the visual leans into glowing 80s references (something I was definitely hoping for), with a magical neon-lit “introspectator” box that houses a glam-dressed Stan. It acts almost as a portal, a space where authenticity reigns and self-judgement melts away. It’s stylish, striking and beautifully aligned with Stan’s emerging universe.

As debut independent releases go, “Introspectator” offers a compelling introduction to Stan Pratt, the musician. Especially, delivers bold, imaginative and gorgeously off-centre in all the right ways.
