Watch “Dopamine” by Robyn – EQ Music Blog

It’s been a minute since we last heard solo material from Robyn — seven years, to be exact, but the wait is finally over. The Swedish pop icon is back with Dopamine,” which just premiered as Jack SaundersHottest Record on BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show.

In true Robyn fashion, Dopamine arrives steeped in emotion, reflection, and those unmistakable synth textures that instantly transport us back to her “Body Talk” era. And here’s a fun twist: the song actually has history. Co-written with longtime collaborator Klas Åhlund and Taio Cruz, Dopamine has been sitting in Robyn’s vault for over a decade, dating back to the early “Body Talk” sessions.

At the time, it didn’t quite align with where Robyn was heading musically. She shifted her focus toward experimental dance sounds on her later releases. But now, it feels like the moment is finally right for Dopamine.”

Listen on Apple Music

From the very first listen, the track’s burbling electronic-pop heartbeat feels comfortingly familiar, yet freshly invigorated. Lyrically, Robyn explores the physical sensation of falling in love and how we experience emotion through both science and soul.

Everyone has a phone where they see their heart rate, and we’re learning how to decode our emotions through the hormones and chemical substances in our bodies. It’s almost like we don’t even accept that we’re human anymore, like we’re trying to explain every single thing, which I think is great, but that’s also why the world is shit, this idea that you can figure out and win life or something“.

She goes deeper into what the track means to her:

The doubleness of Dopamine is having an emotion that is super real, super strong, intense, enjoyable or painful, and at the same time knowing that this is just a biological process in my body—and then not to choose religion or science. To just accept that they’re there together and to be able to go in between.”

The release is accompanied by a vibrant music video directed by Marili Andre, which captures Robyn at her most euphoric. She dances freely, radiating joy, and exuding pure feel-good energy. It’s a visual celebration of everything Dopamine represents: connection, release, and the bliss of being swept up in emotion.

And there’s even more to come. In her conversation with Jack Saunders, Robyn confirmed that Dopamine marks just the beginning of what’s ahead. Above all, she revealed that additional tracks, some unearthed from the same decade-old sessions, and others newly written, are forthcoming. She didn’t give much away (classic Robyn), but it’s clear that 2026 is shaping up to usher in a brand-new era for the beloved Swedish pop visionary.

Honestly, I couldn’t be happier to have her back on my radar.
