Artists like Haute & Freddy, Chloe Qisha, and The Temper Trap are elevating their visuals to new heights. Additionally, we’re also seeing an exciting resurgence from pop icons like Lady Gaga and JADE. Now, global pop visionary MIKA is stepping into the spotlight with the announcement of his latest single, “Modern Times,” ahead of a new album. This is a thrilling moment for music lovers, as the visual aspect of artistry is finally being reclaimed and celebrated once again.
For a visionary artist like MIKA, the synergy between visual and musical elements is paramount. Thus, any announcement of new material from him inspires a truly unparalleled excitement. In this latest endeavour, MIKA teams up with the exceptionally talented Nick Littlemore (of Empire of the Sun) and brings in the additional production expertise of Peter Mayes (of PNAU). “Modern Times,” an entirely original composition by MIKA, marks a bold new chapter in his artistic journey. With this captivating offering, MIKA recalibrates his signature style, delivering his thought-provoking spoken-word vocals to communicate a powerful societal message.
MIKA explains, “The song for me is like a treadmill, and that treadmill is life, life in all its good and all its bad. As time goes on and life gets more confusing and sometimes overwhelming, we look further than the world around us, into the world of mythology, desire and dreams. ‘Modern Times’ is a cathedral-like cry, for faith and spirit, resisting the grind and weight of life and the passing of time.”
MIKA brings his vision to life in an extraordinary music video with Rupert Höller, famed for his work with Foster the People. Höller crafts a striking artistic aesthetic, weaving abstract imagery and industrial themes. And furthermore, touches upon the influence of Salvador Dali. This collaboration culminates in a compelling visual masterpiece that is eye-catching and impactful.
Since the release of his last UK album, 2019’s “My Name Is Michael Holbrook,” UK audiences have eagerly followed MIKA in his role as judge and mentor on the acclaimed TV music competition, The Piano. Now, for fans excited to experience his electrifying performances live, the wait is almost over. In February 2026, MIKA will embark on his most ambitious European tour to date, featuring fifteen spectacular arena shows across the continent.
