EQ Music Interview with Janethan
In this EQ Music interview with Janethan, the Manchester-based dance-pop powerhouse talks about crafting emotional, high-energy tracks that live somewhere between heartbreak and euphoria — think “crying in the club” energy at its finest. He shares the story behind his moving collaboration honouring The Vivienne, featuring fellow artists Bimini, Tia Kofi, Eden Hunter, Bentley Robles, and Ellis Miah, and gives us a glimpse of the fierce, fun, and vocal-driven world he’ll be bringing to The Camden Club on 24th October 2026. With influences like Robyn, RAYE, and JADE, Janethan is unapologetically pop with something to say — and he’s not holding back.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from? Where are you living? What kind of music do you make?
I’m from Manchester and still based there, though I’ve been back and forth with London for shows and work. I make dance-pop that’s emotional and high-energy. Think crying in the club/giggling at a funeral. My music is about the bits we all feel but maybe don’t want to get too in our head about so instead we sing it from the rooftops instead of having a menty b.
We are very excited to be featuring you on our New Music Showcase on 24th October at The Camden Club in London, tell us a little bit about what you are going to bring to us on the stage.
I’m bringing vocals, vocals and more vocals. I want people to feel like they’re joining my world for a bit, getting lost in it, feeling my anger, my fun, my sadness, my excitement. Also I refuse to let you stand still. This is POP music.
We love your collaboration on The Vivienne tribute – tell us a little bit about this song/project.
The song was a tribute to The Vivienne with 5 other incredibly talented queen artists. Bimini, Tia Kofi, Eden Hunter, Bentley Robles, and Ellis Miah. We all came together to be part of this Simon Jones penned gorgeous track to honour her legacy. It’s been a bittersweet release, because something so awful was the reason it came to be, but there has been such an outpouring of love for the track, it’s warmed my heart.
When it comes to music influences, who are your greatest heroes in the pop music space both legacy and new?
I’ve been shaped by artists who mix honesty with impact. Robyn for showing that dance music can break your heart. RAYE, because she’s writing fearlessly and finally getting the recognition she deserves, I also love her conversational tone. I’ve been obsessed with JADE, I’ve never seen anyone come out the door swinging the way she did. I’m here for people who have a point to prove.
What was the last concert or gig you went to?
RAYE’s My 21st Century Blues tour. I cried. She’s basically had a David vs Goliath moment in the industry and you can feel it when she sings. Best artist out there right now, I’ll stand on that.
