Avicii’s Former Manager Signals He’s Breaking Silence on “Distorted” Narrative

Seven years after Avicii’s death, Ash Pournouri says he is ready to offer his perspective.

Avicii‘s tragic 2018 death by suicide brought with it a spotlight on the pressures behind electronic dance music stardom. Since parting ways with the legendary Swedish DJ in December 2016, his former manager Ash Pournouri has rarely offered extensive public commentary on those final years.

This week, however, Pournouri took to Instagram to resurface an old message he said he’d written the day after Avicii’s death.

“In 2018, the day after Tim passed, I wrote: ‘There’s so much to this that others don’t know, nor could they even begin to understand. And I will try to address it at a later time,’” reads his post from Thursday.

Pournouri says the moment to expand on those words is now approaching.

“I waited. I asked for the record to be set straight – not just for me and my family, but also for Tim. That never happened. The facts stayed buried, while the picture was left distorted. At some point, waiting for others to speak up became part of the problem. Seven years on, that time I spoke of rests only with me, and is finally approaching.”

The renewed comments arrive as Pournouri is reportedly pursuing a defamation case against Levan Tsikurishvili, the director of Avicii: True Stories, arguing that the 2017 documentary cast him unfairly as the figure who pushed Avicii to perform against doctors’ advice.

Seven years on, key disputes over how Avicii’s life and career are remembered remain unresolved. Pournouri now suggests his perspective will soon be part of the public record. You can read his full statement below.
