Miranda Lambert is more than just a country music singer. She’s a prolific songwriter, too. She’s written many songs for other artists, including her ex-husband, Blake Shelton. But she absolutely refused to sing a song written by Hardy.

Miranda Lambert Heads To The Pros In Surprising New Hobby

Miranda Lambert and her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, are approaching their seventh wedding anniversary. She married the former NYPD officer in 2019 after meeting a few months earlier. He was part of the security team during her appearance on Good Morning America in New York City.

Their short marriage has been the subject of rumors, especially after he was caught cozying up to another woman in the Nashville bar Miranda owns. Brendan McLoughlin accompanied her when she opened for Morgan Wallen on tour this summer.

In their downtime, the singer took up a surprising hobby to connect with her hubby: golf. It turns out that she really loves the relaxing sport and is good at it.

Miranda Lambert was among the celebrities playing golf in the Ryder Cup Celebrity All-Star Match on Wednesday in Farmingdale, N.Y. Other celebrities at the event included GMA host Michael Strahan, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and former NFL player Eli Manning.

Why Miranda Lambert Said No To A Song Written By Hardy

As a listener, the best songs are the ones that hit closest to home. But for Miranda Lambert, hitting too close to the heart is why she turned down recording a song written by Hardy.

Hardy recently released the song himself and spoke out about why Miranda Lambert turned it down. He first wrote the song “Dog Years” over a decade ago. He finally recorded the song for his upcoming album, Country! Country!

He was a guest on the Katie & Company podcast to promote his new album and got talking about “Dog Years.” He revealed that he once begged Miranda Lambert to record the song but she couldn’t.

It was too sad and she was afraid she would break down while performing it. Hardy wrote the song about his childhood dog, Nugget.

“And right now I know you’re fightin’ a lot of feelings
Starin’ at me
Knowin’ this time when you scratch my head it’ll probably be the last
But if I could speak your language
All that I would do is thank you for the best years,
Though they went by seven times too fast.”

Miranda Lambert refused to record the full song. But she sang harmonies on “Dog Years” when Hardy performed it at one of the MuttNation events. She founded the foundation in 2009. MuttNation promotes the adoption of shelter pets and provides assistance to shelters throughout the country.

Hardy’s song “Dog Years” is a tearjerker for anyone who has ever lost a pet. It’s no wonder Miranda Lambert couldn’t record it.
