EQ Music Exclusive: Watch “Dirty Laundry” by Kenton

Asian queer pop artist Kenton is sick and tired of keeping the family secrets, well – secret. So what does he do about it? He airs it out in a catchy new pop diddy called “Dirty Laundry” that will infectiously earworm it’s way into your psyche today. “Dirty Laundry” is an honest and heartfelt little act of rebellion that is sure resonate with a lot of our LGBTQ+ readers.

The fourth and final single, “Dirty Laundry,” sets the stage for Kenton’s Sweetmouth album release on Octobrer 17th. His lyrical waxing “I’m bringing shame upon the family / I’m calling out the truth as I see.” between his cousin in rehab and his questionable auntie, Kenton ponders why he’s seen as the black sheep simply because he’s open about his sexuality. He ponders, why “am I the drama?”

“Dirty Laundry” is produced and co-written by Eric Cannata (Young the Giant), mixed by Neal Avron (Twenty One Pilots, Sara Bareilles), and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty (Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish).

“I have always felt guilty for putting personal matters in my songs, because my father, a pastor, would have to answer to his congregation about his ‘wild gay son.’ My parent’s greatest fear is that because I work in entertainment, I’m going to end up sex trafficked and addicted to drugs. Well, I’ve been touring for years now, and so far so good. But I’m done hiding. So what if I’m queer? So what if I drink? Work in entertainment? Time to face my greatest shame and let it all out.” – Kenton
