Formed in Falköping in 1990 (originally as Tumulus), Sacramentum quickly earned recognition for their atmospheric, melodic approach to black/death metal. Karlén, who originally handled guitar before moving to bass and vocals, helped steer the band through their early years and their landmark 1996 debut Far Away from the Sun, now considered a cornerstone of melodic black metal.
Over the years, Sacramentum released three full-length albums – Far Away From The Sun, The Coming Of Chaos, Thy Black Destiny – and were often mentioned in the same breath as Dissection for their darkly melodic yet aggressive sound. Their influence can be heard in countless modern extreme metal acts, from Europe to North America.
In recent years, Sacramentum had resurfaced for festival appearances and reissues, reaffirming their legacy as one of Sweden’s most revered underground bands.
