Watch “Denial” by Autoheart – EQ Music Blog
Last New Music Friday truly stood out as the best album release day of the year for me. After months of eagerly anticipating these projects and sharing their lead-up singles on the blog, the moment finally arrived. And it felt exhilarating to have all this new music drop at once. Among the standout releases was the indie-pop trio Autoheart, celebrating their captivating album “Heartlands.” They joined an impressive lineup that includes Madison Rose’s bold “Monochrome The White Album,” Alison Goldfrapp’s mesmerising “Flux,” Conan Gray’s deeply introspective “Wishbone,” and The Aces “Gold Star Baby.” Likewise, each album contributes its own unique essence, that made this particular release day a remarkable and unforgettable experience.
After years of exploring their music on this blog, I’ve developed a deep admiration for Autoheart. Their captivating and thought-provoking lyrical narratives draw me in, offering a wealth of worldly insights. Throughout our journey in the “Heartlands,” they have navigated the poignant theme of connection, set against the stark backdrop of emotional distance in “Sad Divide.” The track “Baby Bird” powerfully explores themes of resilience and self-discovery, resonating deeply with those on their own journeys. Additionally, “Indigo Chateau” stands as a heartfelt anthem for outsiders, inviting listeners to embrace their unique paths.
On the day of the “Heartlands” album release, Autoheart proudly introduced “Denial” as their latest focus track. This is a powerful ode to the themes of angst, contradiction, and indecision. However, in a surprising twist, rather than intensifying the weighty conversation those themes evoke, the band chose to accompany the track with an unexpectedly lively visual experience. The music video revisits beloved characters from their past works, showcasing a unique blend of nostalgia and creativity. Autoheart enthusiastically stated, “We cosplayed our own video characters because it simply had to be done.”
Above all, lyrically, the album stands as a powerful reckoning. A heartfelt collection of letters to their younger selves, poignant reflections on the often unseen burdens of growing up queer. And equally a rallying call of solidarity for those still grappling with that weight. It especially embodies the profound depth and introspection that fans have come to deeply value. Yet, most impressively, Autoheart carves out an unmistakable identity in the music landscape; their sound is entirely their own, unafraid to defy convention and forge a unique path.
Ultimately, they have expertly crafted an unmissable body of work that showcases the very best of their exceptional talent at all times.
