Legendary country singer George Strait has just landed a huge but “overdue” honor, and his fans are extremely thrilled about this. So, what is the honor, and when exactly is he set to receive it? Keep reading for all of the exciting details.
George Strait Lands Huge Honor
Fans who know and love George Strait believe he deserves the world. The seventy-three-year-old country music icon has won one Grammy but sold over one hundred million albums. This is a huge accomplishment, but he also has a colorful past. George was a corporal in the Army for four years and was honorably discharged in 1975. After his exit, he went on to attend university, and during that time, he joined a band, launching him into performing. By 1981, his music career was set to take off, and he has been a staple in country ever since.

Recently, President Donald Trump released the names of the 2025 Kennedy Center Honorees. They included Michael Crawford, singer Gloria Gaynor, rock band KISS, and actor Sylvester Stallone of Rocky fame. Finally, George was also among the list of honorees, and his followers could not have been more excited for this moment. They felt it was a very “overdue” honor, and that he should have obtained it years ago. Regardless, it is better late than never, and something to be celebrated. Now, George was actually the first name mentioned in the long list of honorees.
President Trump detailed George Strait’s immensely long and successful career, revealing why he was the perfect choice for this honor. Before his portrait was revealed to onlookers and the press, the president said this of George:
He is believed by millions of people to just be as good as you can get, and he is beloved by hundreds of millions of people all over the world. He’s really something. They call him the King of Country; we know him very well, George Strait.
The event will be held in December 2025, and the president may or may not host it. He claimed that he was asked, but whether he will is up in the air.
Took Too Long
For many George Strait fans, this moment took far too long. They feel he should have been honored years ago, but that did not happen. Granted, better late than never, but his diehard fans were very vocal about their disdain:
- What a great man with a great family
- I love that you think of others. It shows me a man who never forgot his roots
Finally, one stated that this was “long overdue,” but again, the fact that it has happened is amazing to see. As to what he will do on the night of the ceremony is unknown. However, his fans are ready and raring to go.
