SANGUISUGABOGG Claim They Were Told To Leave Or The Venue General Manager Would Shoot Them in Memphis, Tennessee
In preparation of their forthcoming record’s release on the 10th of October, Sanguisugabogg embarked on a North American tour that sounds like it went well until the second to last tour date.
There, Sanguisugabogg claims they were threatened with a firearm after their show in Memphis, Tennessee on the 29th of July, when the band went to collect their pay for their show.
In a lengthy statement posted to Instagram, alongside photos of the accused, Sanguisugabogg details an alleged incident in which the venue’s general manager told the band he would shoot them if they didn’t leave the venue after their set – without their payment.
**WARNING**
BANDS, BOOKING AGENTS, MANAGERS DO NOT WORK FOR THIS CLOWN ????This is Cory Likens and hopefully by tomorrow morning he doesn’t have a job!
At our show in Memphis, TN tonight, right after we got done playing, we were told to come to his office to settle. So, our [tour manager went] up and was told that we breached our contract because our set ended earlier than what we were slotted (not a thing), and [Likens] shoved [the tour manager] out of his office.[Then,] all the bands returned to [the office] just settle out and one of us just wanted to have a conversation as to what was going on [. As one of them does so, Likens] popped his head out of the office to tell us to leave or he was going to SHOOT us.
[Likens] ended up leaving… and luckily after a few hours someone way more professional and calmly mannered wrote a check. We’ve heard from people that he’s unwell and stuff to not this extreme but bands not getting paid has happened before.Glad you made sure to leave without giving us your name I bet you felt really proud and safe but quick detective work like finding your f*ckboy haircut on google did the trick.
We also made sure to include pics of the green room cuz we saw the staff take a picture of the room when the table got knocked over… obviously it’s not broken[.]
Awesome venue, awesome show, screw this dude!
Then, Sanguisugabogg included an update alleging that after the band had posted their original statement detailing their encounter with Likens, the venue themselves had reached out to the band to ‘clarify’ what happened:
UPDATE
[The venue is] telling us to take the post down and saying [that Likens] didn’t say he was gonna shoot us[,] that he told us “I have a gun…”[.]
That’s not true. He told 5 of us he was going to shoot us and they’re saying we breached contract which is totally made up thing.
People do not support Minglewood Hall / 1884 Lounge do not buy tickets to their shows and make everyone aware of this! Straight up f**k this place!
So, regardless of which version of events you go with, if you were to go with the lesser of the two evil options that Sanguisugabogg claim, Likens told several band members with a weapon, saying ‘I have a gun’ – for whatever reason, unless, you know… he was threatening them. If he just straight up threatened them, he straight up threatened them.
And indeed, while they got paid, no band should be told that the venue manager has a weapon, just ‘casually’ or otherwise. Sanguisugabogg originally said that it was an “awesome venue,” until their update where they detail what the venue was reportedly telling the band behind the scenes. Now, the band is saying not to support the venue in any capacity. It’s not entirely flawed logic.
There is no word as to whether or not there will be an investigation into Likens‘ conduct with a weapon, or as to whether or not he still works at Minglewood Hall and 1884 Lounge.
Sanguisugabogg are a pretty fun band with some nasty tunes, and they have just wrapped up their most recent tour in anticipation of their upcoming record, Hideous Aftermath, as previously stated.
