Dolly Parton Has Been Open About Taking A Hiatus From Songwriting
As longtime Dolly Parton fans know, the legendary singer has a songwriting career that spans decades. She has churned out hits for generations of listeners to enjoy. However, following the tragic passing of Carl Dean, whom Dolly was married to for almost 60 years, Dolly recently opened up about the fact that she was taking a hiatus from songwriting.
Dolly went on to say, “Several things I’ve wanted to start, but I can’t do it. I will later, but I’m just coming up with such wonderful, beautiful ideas. But I think I won’t finish it … I can’t do it right now, because I got so many other things and I can’t afford the luxury of getting that emotional right now.”

Dolly Gives Fans A Strong Warning, What Happened?
Based on recent events surrounding Dolly Parton, she addressed her audience with a stern warning. The first run of Dolly’s new musical, Dolly: A True Original Musical, previewed for audiences recently, and it was a major breakthrough, as well as a taste of what is to come with this new production.
This special preview took place at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at the Belmont University campus in Nashville. This production is headed for New York City in 2026, but this preview was a taste of everything that fans can expect from this musical based on the life of the icon herself.
Amid all of the hype and energy in the room, however, Dolly made sure to address the crowd with a stern warning. Dolly went on to say, “Now they told me to tell you, they have to turn off their cell phones… and they said to turn off all the stuff, including you. They said, every time you hear a song you know, that you’re gonna want to sing along. Well, don’t. This ain’t no hootenanny! This is a Broadway musical. Have a great time, you know I love you, appreciate you.”
