Listen to “Sweatbox” by Marlowe
Following a sweltering hot weekend here in the UK, I found myself drawn to “Sweatbox,” the latest single from emerging pop artist Marlowe. It’s a timely track, capturing the spirit of the moment. However, Marlowe, originally from Venezuela but now making waves in London, doesn’t seem bothered by the weather at all. Interestingly, “Sweatbox” isn’t an anthem for climate activism or a commentary on the oppressive humidity that seems to be plaguing the UK. Instead, Marlowe opts for raw, confessional lyrics that delve into personal experiences, particularly the journey of living authentically in the public eye. In this track, they convey a yearning to shed inhibitions and celebrate love and affection within the vibrant atmosphere of a club setting.
“I feel drops of your sweat, see you staring at my mouth. Let other people watch, that’s why we’re not at our house”. the song lyrics express
Had it not been Pride Month, Marlowe would have undoubtedly released this track regardless, as its significance transcends Pride celebrations. The song embodies the vibrant spirit of the LGBTQ+ community, aligning seamlessly with pride themes of authentic living, self-expression, and the celebration of joy and love. This track is an undeniably addictive dance-pop anthem, filled with euphoric beats and catchy hooks that invite listeners to hit the dance floor. It brings to mind the infectious charm of Stephen (Tin Tin) Duffy‘s classic “Kiss Me,” with its playful melodies and upbeat rhythm. Moreover, it draws inspiration from the contemporary pop sounds of artists like Troye Sivan and Olly Alexander, highlighting Marlowe’s commitment to blending modern influences with timeless appeal. This release not only captivates the ear but also invites everyone to embrace their true selves on the dance floor.
This release is taken from Marlowe’s highly anticipated debut mini-album SUBMISSIVE, out on 29th August 2025 via Plant Pot Records.
“This whole project is a song cycle that explores the unravelling of a people-pleaser. It’s a testament to the defiance of societal rules, pressures, and expectations — things I grapple with every day.”
Furthermore, Marlowe declares…
This release represents more than just music; it’s a personal reckoning…
