Dolly Parton lost her husband in March after almost 60 years of marriage. She opened up about why part of her is “happy” about his death. Keep reading for all the details.
Dolly Parton Teases Tour
Dolly Parton retired from touring several years ago. While she still takes the stage for occasional performances, she stopped going far from home. When asked, she explained that she didn’t want to leave her husband alone in their golden years.
She was just a teenager when she met Carl Dean outside a laundromat in 1964. They married two years later. Despite Dolly Parton’s massive popularity, her husband managed to stay out of the public eye for their decades-long marriage. In fact, some fans started to wonder if he was even a real person.

He was. And the singer was heartbroken when he passed away. The announcement was made in early March on Dolly Parton’s various social media accounts. Fans rallied around the singer after her husband’s death. But they also wondered if Dolly might start touring again.
One popular question is if she’ll make a surprise appearance on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour. After all, the pop singer’s country album includes a reworked cover of “Jolene.”
In a recent interview with Huff Post, Dolly Parton said she was “honored” by Beyoncé covering one of her biggest hits. As for joining the tour, the singer played coy.
“You never know — anything is possible!”
Dolly Parton Reveals Why She’s ‘Happy’ About Husband’s Death
Dolly Parton was hit hard by her husband’s death. He had been sick for a while, so it wasn’t completely unexpected. However, they lived a happily married life for nearly six decades. The singer admitted that it was difficult to adjust to life without her husband.
She released the song “If You Hadn’t Been There” as a tribute to her husband.
“I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t been there/ Holding my hand/ Showing you care/ You made me dream more than I dared/ And I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t been there,” she crooned on the emotional song.
Dolly Parton spoke to Entertainment Tonight earlier this week. She said that despite her heartbreak, part of her is “happy” that her husband is at peace.
“He did suffer a lot for the last few years, and there’s a part of me that’s happy he’s at peace and at rest. But then of course, there’s that part of me that will miss him forever and long for him every day. For the rest of my life, I’m sure” – Dolly Parton, Entertainment Tonight.
How She’s Doing Now
The singer added that it is hard to figure out how to be without her husband. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on May 30.
“I’m holding up, I’m doing as well as one can after 60 years, being with and loving somebody,” she said about the huge loss.
