George Strait has been making his female fans swoon for over four decades. He broke into mainstream country music with his first single, “Unwound,” in 1981. Over the years, he’s released beloved songs like “The Chair,” Check Yes Or No,” and “Troubadour.”

In 2012, he announced his final tour. The Cowboy Rides Away Tour kicked off in 2013 and ended in Arlington, Texas, the following year. Despite retiring from touring nearly a decade ago, George Strait, 73, continues to perform for audiences. A video of one recent performance worried fans for the singer’s health. What’s going on?

George Strait Teams Up With Chris Stapleton For Mini-Tour

Like many artists, George Strait said he was done touring but the road called him back. He continued to perform in stadiums on occasion over the years and he also had a long-running residency in Las Vegas.

Earlier this year, the “Amarillo By Morning” singer announced plans to tour with one of the hottest country music stars right now. He teams up this summer with Chris Stapleton, who recently won Male Artist of the Year at the 2025 ACM Awards.

The short five-stop stadium tour follows their popular tour in 2024 that also featured Little Big Town. Click here to nab tickets to the hottest tour of the summer.

Fans Worry About His Health After Shocking Video

George Strait released his last album in 2024. Cowboys and Dreams peaked at number six on the country charts. The singer is just as popular today as he was in the 1980s.

A fan at a recent concert shared a clip on TikTok of George Strait performing one of his biggest hits, “All My Exes Live In Texas.” The song was name-checked in Blake Shelton’s recent hit, “Texas.”

“She’s probably in Texas / Amarillo, all I know / George Strait said it / Yeah, that’s where all them exes go,”  “Texas,” Blake Shelton.

George Strait’s voice was, of course, flawless. Some fans were concerned that he was sitting down during the entire performance and looked in pain.

But some fans in the comments dismissed any concerns and said the singer seemed in top form to them.

  • “That man can stand there and not sing at all and I would still be in awe of him!!”
  • “George million dollar smile”
  • “Amazing you never disappoint me. Your voice is like a rock solid.”
  • “He never ages and has remained tru to himself!”

The Real Story

But one fan was persistent in their concern for George Strait. They pointed out that another old-school singer, Alan Jackson, recently quit touring after a shocking diagnosis.

A few fans who attended the concert revealed the reason George Strait was sitting during the performance. They shared that the singer himself said that he hurt his back.

Instead of postponing or canceling the tour, he decided to perform anyway with a modification. Regardless of his back injury, it seems the show (and tour) will go on.

So it seems that even though George Strait retired from touring years ago, he can’t resist performing for a crowd of his devoted fans. Have you seen the singer at a concert where he was sitting down for most of it? Let us know in the comments.
